Product Description

The Canary Cottage on Main Street was literally the coolest place in town because it was the first establishment to install air conditioning. Popular in the 1930s and 1940s there were Canary Cottages in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

Originally established in 1919 Canary Cottage patrons could enjoy "Colonial Dinners" of fried calf brains, creole spaghetti with sliced frankfurters, chicken chow mien, or country-styled fried chicken."

The Indianapolis restaurant was severely damaged in a fire in 1953 and never reopened. The original Lexington restaurant closed in 1969.
