Cocktails, Hotel Manteo Cold Spring NY 1933
These cocktail images were created shortly after the repeal of Prohibition in December 1933 in the state of New York, hence their celebratory air. Everyone is a little tipsy, including Manhattan’s art deco landmark Chrysler Building which had been completed three years previously. The drawings come from a drinks menu from the Hotel Manteo in Cold Spring, New York and are a fine example of imaginative vintage menu artwork. The McCaffrey family ran this establishment from the early 1900s until 1978.
The original building is still there and is now occupied by a bar called Whistling Willies.
