Opened in 1924 in Florence, Italy, Sabatini is one of the city’s most famous restaurants and its oldest… soon to celebrate its 100th birthday. Located in the historic center of Florence in Via Panzani, a step away from the Santa Maria Novella train station and the magnificent Duomo (cathedral), its furniture comes from a deconsecrated church dating back to 1500. Sabatini is the only restaurant in Italy protected by the Italian Fine Arts Department.
Known for its theatrical flambés and Bistecca alla Fiorentina, it remains a highlight on the itinerary of any gourmet traveler.
It was a favorite lunch spot for the American-Polish piano maestro Arthur Rubenstein and other famous names who ate here included Fred Astaire, Paul Newman, Alain Delon and more recently, Madonna, Denzel Washington and Sting.
Many Italian politicians choose to eat here, as well as famous conductors like Riccardo Muti and Zubin Metha before or after performances at the Teatro Comunale.
The restaurant has had a succession of owners during its near century of feeding guests classical Florentine cuisine, and is currently owned by Florentine businessman Julian Golemi.
